Applications Open for The Bahamas Climate Change Youth Ambassadors Programme

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Climate Change & Environmental Advisory Unit (CCEAU) in the Office of the Prime Minister is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Bahamas Climate Change Youth Ambassadors Programme.

The initiative selects two young leaders – one male and one female, aged 18 to 25 – to serve as national and international advocates for climate action, ensuring Bahamian youth voices are represented in key climate discussions.

Climate Change Youth Ambassadors play a dynamic and impactful role. Participants engage in policy discussions, develop and support community-based initiatives, and represent The Bahamas at regional and international climate forums. Ambassadors also collaborate with policymakers, climate experts, and community leaders to advance climate resilience, raise awareness, and mobilize young people across the country.

“Ambassadors simply need to be passionate, hardworking, willing to learn, and able to collaborate as a team,” said N. Charles Hamilton, Climate Advisor in the CCEAU. “Climate change is a multidisciplinary field, so a background in environmental or climate studies is not required.”

Reflecting on his experience, outgoing 2024–2025 Climate Change Youth Ambassador Jervon Sands described the programme as transformative.

“The Climate Change Youth Ambassadors Programme afforded me a wealth of opportunities as a young Bahamian entering the field,” Sands said. “I gained firsthand experience representing The Bahamas at international climate forums such as SIDS4 in Antigua and Barbuda and COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.”

“Attending these conferences allowed me to apply the training I received throughout my ambassadorship while deepening my understanding of The Bahamas’ role in the global climate response,” he added. “Nationally, I built strong networks with local climate actors and worked alongside them to develop initiatives, host events, and engage youth at our national climate change conference, BYCC.”

“Overall, the experience grounded me in the realities of climate change in The Bahamas and inspired me to continue working in the field to help secure the future of our islands.”

The CCEAU encourages motivated young Bahamians with an interest in national development, sustainability, and climate advocacy to apply. Participants benefit from leadership development, expanded professional networks, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to shaping The Bahamas’ climate response. Selected ambassadors will also have the opportunity to participate in COP31 in Türkiye.

The application deadline is March 31, 2026. For eligibility criteria, responsibilities, and application instructions, follow @CCEAUBahamas on Instagram and @C2EAU on Facebook, or apply directly at https://forms.office.com/r/PfTYhae6LR or by scanning the QR code.
