Friends, good morning.
It is always a joy to return home, to the place where I first learned and understood the meaning of connection and community.
Today’s occasion carries real meaning for me because I know how much potential this community has. And now, we are inviting the nation and world to partake in all that is great about our beautiful island.
Today is about connection.
For the first time in more than twenty years, Bahamasair will again provide scheduled service to Cat Island.
Beginning today, flights between Nassau and Cat Island will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, bringing new opportunity to this island.
Today, we celebrate the reopening of this route that brings people closer together.
It makes it easier for residents to travel for business, healthcare, and family.
It provides greater convenience and strengthens the connections that bind our islands together.
And it opens new possibilities for economic growth.
Cat Island is one of the treasures of our nation. Its history and natural beauty offer visitors a truly unique Bahamian experience. Improved airlift will help showcase all that this island has to offer and encourage more people to discover what makes Cat Island so special.
Greater access will also support small businesses.
Hotels, restaurants, taxi drivers, and entrepreneurs throughout this island stand to benefit from increased visitor activity.
As more people discover Cat Island, local businesses have a real opportunity to grow.
This initiative reflects my administration’s commitment to ensuring that every island shares in the benefits of national development.
As we continue building on progress, we are investing in increased airlift capacity, modern airports, and transportation infrastructure throughout our archipelago to create opportunities and improve the quality of life for all.
We are actively building and renovating 19 airports through the Renaissance Airport Project, with more airports to come.
It is the largest project of its kind in Bahamian history and is projected to have a huge impact on every major island in The Bahamas.
Now that’s progress.
This progress would be impossible without a great team, so I thank everyone who has contributed to this renaissance.
Bahamasair has long played a vital role in connecting The Bahamas and our people. So, I wish to thank Bahamasair for its commitment to these islands.
I also wish to thank Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis and her team at the Ministry of Energy, Utility and Aviation, as well as Minister Glenys Hanna Martin and the Ministry of Tourism team for their role in bringing us to this day.
As a son of Cat Island, I am especially proud to witness this occasion. I look forward to seeing this service grow and more people experience the warmth and beauty of this island.
Thank you to the people of Cat Island for your continued support and partnership as we invest in the great potential that Cat Island has to offer.
We have a lot more to accomplish together and a lot more bright days ahead of us.
May God continue to bless Cat Island and may He continue to bless The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
Thank you.
