Prime Minister Philip Davis’s Remarks at the EA Energy Hybrid Power Facility Site Tour

Good morning, everyone.

Before I say anything about this facility, let me say something about a date we’ll forever remember.

Next week marks seven years since Hurricane Dorian sat over this island and took from Abaco more than any of us can properly measure. Homes. Businesses. Neighbours. People we loved.

I raise it not to reopen the wound, but because you cannot understand what you are standing in front of today unless you understand what this island has come back from.

Look behind me. Sixty acres of solar panels — where, not long ago, there was nothing at all.

This November, that solar begins feeding the grid. And by May of 2027, when the engines and the battery storage come online, this facility will be capable of powering the whole of the Abaco mainland.

Let me be plain about what that means. Abaco will be home to the first hybrid solar and LNG power plant in the history of this country. Not a pilot project. Not a promise on paper. The first — right here.

Nearly thirty megawatts of gas engines. Sixty acres of solar. Twenty megawatt-hours of battery storage. And the same work going on at the same time in Eleuthera.

We announced a New Energy Era three years ago. We signed the Power Purchase Agreement last April. And today we are walking through it.

So let me say something to our partners, and to the Bahamian people.

The deadline is the deadline. May 2027. Abaco. Eleuthera.

I know that our people have been promised things before — and I understand entirely why some of them will wait to see the lights come on before they believe it. That is fair. The answer to that is not more speeches. The answer is panels in the ground, engines on site, and power that stays on when the wind blows.

Because in the end, this is not about megawatts. It is about the family that stops buying candles. The business that stops budgeting for a generator. The child who does homework without the lights flickering.

And after twenty-five years, this facility comes home — turned over to BPL, owned by the Bahamian people.

Seven years ago, this island was told what it had lost. Today, Abaco is showing the country what it is building.

And I’m happy to say we are building bigger & better.
