First flights to the southern Bahamas and Andros for the start of roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Family Islands



Today, Prime Minister Minnis and United States Embassy Nassau, The Bahamas Charge d’affaires Usha Pitts were at Odyssey Aviation Bahamas to send off the first flights to the southern Bahamas and Andros for the start of an aggressive roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Family Islands.The US Embassy has donated the use of a C-12 aircraft and pilots to transport the medical teams, volunteers and the vaccines to and from the islands during the week-long Family Island roll out scheduled to end on Friday 30 April. The C-12 aircraft took off for flights to Mayaguana, Inagua, Crooked Island and Acklins shortly before 8am. Life Flight Air Ambulance Services is transporting the team to Andros, and is also being used to transport teams to and from the islands. Also at the airport for the send off were Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis, Special Health Adviser to the Prime Minister and chair of the National COVID-19 Vaccine Consultative Committee; Ed Fields, deputy chair, Consultative Committee; and Dr. Frank Walkine and Jason Sweeting of Life Flight Air Ambulance Services.To view the full vaccination schedule for the Family Islands visit opm.gov.bs.
