Immediate Past President, Bishop Delton Fernander,
Clergy, Distinguished guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening.
To God be all the glory, great things he has done.
It is indeed a profound honour to join you on this significant occasion as we witness the installation of a new President and Executive of the Bahamas Christian Council.
First, allow me to extend warm congratulations to my friend, Pastor Mario Moxey, upon his installation as President. I commend you as you continue in this tradition and become the twenty-third president.
Pastor Moxey, we congratulate you, while recognizing that anyone who accepts the mantle of leadership must possess faith, courage and, perhaps, an extra measure of patience!
But knowing you, I have every confidence that God has prepared you for this moment and this assignment.
It is, therefore, most fitting that you have chosen to begin this new chapter under the theme, “One Voice, One Church, One Nation.”
At a time when division too often threatens to overshadow our common purpose, this theme reminds us that unity remains one of our greatest strengths.
Though we may have different traditions, we share a common faith and a common responsibility to serve our people.
For generations, the Christian Council has served as a moral compass and source of spiritual guidance for our nation.
And its story cannot be told without recognizing the enduring contribution of the church – from strengthening families to supporting communities and advancing national development.
As a government, we recognize that building a stronger Bahamas is a shared responsibility because no government alone can solve every social challenge.
The work of nation-building requires partnership.
The government may build roads, modernize infrastructure, and design social policy – but it is faith, discipleship, and a strong family foundation that build a nation.
That is the work of the church.
That is why maintaining the partnership between my administration and the church continues to remain a priority for me.
Our roles may be different, and we may not agree on every policy issue, but I know that we share a commitment to the welfare of the people of The Bahamas, for generations to come.
As we seek to confront crime through initiatives such as Urban Renewal, expand opportunities for young people through UPSKILL and the Bahamas National Youth Guard, the church remains critical now more than ever – as a moral compass, a source of stability for families, and a trusted partner in shaping values and guiding our young people.
We cannot do this work alone.
Pastor Moxey, it is my prayer that God will grant you the wisdom to lead, continued courage to speak with conviction and compassion, and grace to unite God’s people in service to our nation.
And so, on behalf of the government and the people of The Bahamas, I congratulate you on your installation and assure you of our continued prayers and support as we strive to build a stronger, safer and more compassionate Bahamas.
May God bless Pastor Moxey and The Bahamas Christian Council.
And may Almighty God continue to bless the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
Thank you.
