Prime Minister Davis Congratulates Goombay Kids on International Film Success

Receiving six awards and eight nominations for its season 3 performance, the Our TV original
television show Goombay Kids is internationally recognized for its vast array of talent and
creativity.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Davis took the time to congratulate members of the cast and crew on their
most recent accomplishments.

“I am pleased with the achievements of the all Bahamian cast and crew of the television series
Goombay Kids. Their success at the Cannes World Film Festival, capturing top awards, speaks
volumes of the ability of Bahamians to thrive in the international arena. I am particularly excited
about the future of an Orange Economy that seeks to provide proper space and compensation for
the performing arts,” said Prime Minister Davis.

The show most recently received top awards from the Cannes World Film Festival for Best TV
Series and Best Producer. It also won Best Series and Honorable Mention for Best Trailer at the
Vesuvius International Film Festival in Italy.

A key component of the Davis Administration’s Blueprint for Change is the development of the
Orange Economy, which includes creating a model for cultural and creative projects like
Goombay Kids and providing the support and opportunities needed to succeed.

“We are so proud that [Goombay Kids] is a fully Bahamian production. We came together to
showcase our talent in the best light and showcase our islands,” stated Executive Producer
Stephanie Nihon during the Office of the Prime Minister’s weekly press briefing.

Other awards and acknowledgments of the series include: Best TV Series, 2 11 17 International
Film Festival, Tamil Nadu, India; Best TV Series and Best Actress, Multi-Dimension Film
Festival; Best TV or Web Series Finalist, St. Petersburg Television and Film Festival; Best
