Upskill Bahamas, DigiLearn Bahamas, and BAMSI online programmes expand access to skills and national growth

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Prime Minister Philip Davis underscored the importance of digital learning pathways in expanding access to education, strengthening workforce readiness, and supporting inclusive national development at the Opportunity Hub: Digital Pathways to Education, Skills & National Growth edition, held at the National Training Agency.

This edition of the Opportunity Hub focused on government-led digital learning initiatives designed to equip Bahamians with future-ready skills and create new pathways to opportunity. In attendance were Prime Minister Davis; Minister of Education and Technical & Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin; Minister of Economic Affairs, the Hon. Michael Halkitis; Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Jomo Campbell; as well as students, programme leads, and representatives from civil society.
“Training and skills development remain central to our country’s long-term success,” said Prime Minister Davis. “Bahamians must have real opportunities to upskill themselves, because without a properly trained population, it is difficult for any nation to succeed.”
The panel highlighted three key digital learning platforms: Upskill Bahamas, DigiLearn Bahamas, and BAMSI’s online learning programmes. Prime Minister Davis emphasized that training remains the foundation of national progress, noting that digital learning plays a critical role in preparing Bahamians for a rapidly changing economy.
Upskill Bahamas provides free access to more than 40 courses from over 30 international universities and training providers. Since its launch in November, more than 11,000 Bahamians have registered, with approximately 25 percent from the Family Islands. Over 4,000 participants have already begun their courses.
DigiLearn Bahamas, a national digital literacy initiative, offers free online, hybrid, and in-person courses focused on essential digital and technology skills. Participants earn certificates and digital badges through partner institutions, strengthening employability and confidence in an increasingly digital economy.
The BAMSI Centre for Online Learning and Industry Training is expanding access to sector-specific education through online and blended programmes in agriculture, business, technology, and liberal arts. The platform also offers certificates and digital badges in agriculture-focused areas such as backyard farming, aquaponics, and landscaping.
The Opportunity Hub is a nationwide engagement initiative designed to connect Bahamians directly with new and expanding opportunities available through government programmes across multiple sectors.
It combines two key elements: a Digital Hub that serves as a central online platform for information and engagement on grants, training, apprenticeships, and development programmes; and a series of in-person events that bring opportunities directly to communities throughout The Bahamas.
