The stabilisation of Haiti’s institutions, infrastructure, and communities is integral to the security of the Caribbean region and to its future development.
We are committed to working with the Haitian government to support and assist in achieving security and political stability for the country. We agree with your comments that there is a need for a holistic and collaborative approach towards addressing Haiti’s political and economic challenges.
CARICOM has been working with the international community to ensure that the people of Haiti can realise their aspirations for peace and prosperity. The best way forward is through inclusive and transparent dialogue, which will allow for a peaceful and lasting resolution to the current situation in Haiti. CARICOM looks forward to working with the Canadian government and other international partners to assist and support the Haitian people.
We firmly believe a Haitian-led solution is vital to ensuring a sustainable and long-lasting resolution to the country’s challenges. The Haitian government and people must be at the forefront of any efforts to address the country’s current situation.
Any solutions must be tailored to meet the needs of the Haitian people and be grounded in the realities of the country’s political and economic context.
Therefore, CARICOM respects the sovereignty of Haiti and its people and supports their efforts to find a peaceful and sustainable solution to their challenges. Only through a Haitian-led approach, supported by international partners, can we achieve lasting stability, security and development in Haiti and, by extension, the wider Caribbean region.
