Remarks at the Opening of the Nassau Village Community Centre Groundbreaking

Hon. Philip Edward Davis KC, MP

Prime Minister

Commonwealth of The Bahamas

June 6, 2023

Good afternoon to each and every one of you.

We gather here today at a historic juncture in Nassau Village, the beginning of a project that is more than concrete and steel — the Nassau Village Youth and Community Centre.

I see the faces of this vibrant community, all of you who have joined us today. I see in your eyes the anticipation, the eagerness, and the joy of this moment. This Community Centre isn’t just for us — it’s for our children, our grandchildren, and the generations yet to come. It’s a legacy we’re creating, a testament to our love for Nassau Village.

Community Centres, dear friends, are the heartbeats of our neighbourhoods. They’re the places where our children learn their first dance steps, where our teenagers find solace in books, where our seniors share stories over cups of coffee. They are the crossroads where paths intertwine, relationships are forged, and a community spirit is nurtured.

Today, we’re not just laying the foundation for a building; we’re nurturing the roots of unity, growth, and development. Picture our children finding their passions here, our neighbours forming lifelong friendships, our community discovering its collective strength. Picture the warmth of shared laughter, the triumphs of community events, the solidarity in times of crisis. This Centre will be the canvas for these beautiful moments to unfold.

Our shared vision for Nassau Village goes beyond these walls. This Community Centre will also serve as a pillar of our commitment to safety and security. Just as this Centre is being built, we are bolstering our security efforts — from the recruitment of new police officers to empowering anti-crime initiatives. This Centre will also be a safe haven for those in need, offering resources and support for our fellow Bahamians facing domestic violence.

As your Prime Minister, my vision is of a Bahamas where everyone feels secure, where everyone is nurtured, and where every individual can thrive. This Community Centre is a small yet significant step in that direction.

As we turn this soil today, let us remember — we’re not just breaking ground for a building, we’re laying the cornerstone of our community’s future. This is more than a project; it’s a promise. A promise of togetherness, a promise of security, a promise of progress.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this day a reality. Your unwavering commitment and dedication to our community have been the wind beneath the wings of this project.

As we embark on this exciting journey together, I am filled with an immense sense of pride and hope. This is just the beginning. Let’s continue to work together, hand in hand, to build a brighter, safer, and more prosperous future for Nassau Village.

Thank you, and may this Nassau Village Youth and Community Centre shine as a beacon of hope, unity, and progress for all.
