From Advocacy to Action: Young Bahamian to Drive Sustainable Development Goals

Shante Hanna, 2025-2026 Youth Sustainable Development Goals Ambassador

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister is proud to announce Shante Hanna as the 2025–2026 Sustainable Development Goals Youth Ambassador.

Ms. Hanna stands at the intersection of health, climate, and vulnerable communities, bringing over five years of experience in advocacy and healthcare. With a background in biology, health management, and environmental research, she has led sustainable initiatives, conducted public health research, and engaged directly with communities. Her work focuses on SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 10: Reducing Inequalities, and SDG 13: Climate Action.

Her platform champions climate-resilient health systems, empowers young people to lead in developing innovative and inclusive health-centred climate solutions, and addresses key themes such as thermal stress, mental health, and disaster preparedness.

Launched in 2024, the SDG Unit’s year-long Youth Ambassadorship program amplifies the voices of young leaders in the SDG space. Through this initiative, The Bahamas continues its commitment as a signatory to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development — a global pledge to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all.

“Engaging young people is critical to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals,” said Kendricka Kemp, Senior SDG Unit Officer.

“By creating opportunities for youth leadership and innovation, we are not only preparing the next generation to meet today’s challenges, but also empowering them to shape a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for The Bahamas.”
