The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas has taken note of the petition submitted by the Government of Jamaica, on behalf of the Jamaican people, seeking the referral of questions concerning transatlantic chattel slavery and reparatory justice to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
The Government of The Bahamas supports Jamaica’s efforts and reaffirms its commitment to the shared position of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the wider Caribbean in pursuing reparatory justice for the enduring consequences of slavery and colonialism.
