Agriculture & Fishing

Investing in food security, training, and agri-entrepreneurship to create sustainable livelihoods.

Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI)

The Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute is transforming how the nation grows food, manages resources, and builds sustainable careers. Across Andros and the Family Islands, BAMSI is using modern farming and marine practices to boost local production, launching containerized farming for year-round crops and cultivating disease-resistant Brazilian Green Dwarf coconuts, which now supply BAMSI Coconut Water.

BAMSI’s “Eggcademy” has added thousands of laying hens, while certification programmes have trained over one hundred flats fishing guides and dozens of nature tour guides. Student enrolment has surged to 302, driven by new academic programmes, dual-enrolment for high schoolers, and partnerships with universities like Prairie View A&M, Athens State, and Stanford.
