Enter emerging industries like renewable energy and meteorology as the government invests in tomorrow’s opportunities.
The Niccolo P. Small Meteorology Cadet Programme, launched in 2023, gives young Bahamians hands-on experience in weather forecasting, instrumentation, and climate science through the Department of Meteorology. The programme builds local capacity in meteorology and promotes STEM careers critical to national resilience and disaster preparedness.
Each annual cohort trains aspiring meteorologists through classroom learning and field exposure. To date, 40 Bahamians have completed the programme, with two graduates now employed in the Department of Meteorology and others pursuing studies through scholarship opportunities.

At the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI), the Renewable Energy Programme equips Bahamians with the technical skills to power the nation’s clean-energy transition. Students learn solar installation, maintenance, and energy systems design, preparing them for roles in one of the country’s fastest-growing industries.
This initiative forms part of the government’s broader push toward energy independence and sustainability, creating new green-collar jobs while reducing reliance on imported fuel.
